In Rivers, four hospitalized and five electrocuted

Five people were electrocuted on Monday while attempting to erect a billboard in Rumuosi’s Obiri-Ikwerre axis in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State.

Four other patients who were brought to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital with potentially fatal burns are fighting for their lives there right now.It was learned that the large outdoor billboard contained a metal frame that allegedly made contact with a high-tension cable, setting off a spark.

The massive construction was reportedly hoisted by the nine guys when a metal part of it came into contact with the cable and started to conduct electricity.

Five of them were shocked to death by the current, while four others were reportedly in critical condition.

According to reports, the victims were independent contractors hired to erect a billboard for a church.When reached, Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokesman for the state police command, verified the occurrence and called it regrettable.
