According to the Nigerian Air Force, it has successfully conducted airstrikes on terrorist hideouts in the Northeast and in Rivers State, respectively, as well as on some illegal refining operations.Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the force’s director of public relations and information, made this announcement in an Abuja statement on Sunday.

The statement says, “On August 27, 2023, the air component of Operation Delta Safe conducted air interdiction missions on some illegal refining sites located at Cawthorne Channels, Bille, and Gogokori in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State in continuation of efforts aimed at containing the activities of terrorists, militants, and other criminal elements bent on destabilising the nation and making life unbearable for peace-loving Nigerians.

“After it was discovered that the locations were home to illicit refining operations, the areas were targeted and demolished. In particular, a Cotonou boat that was seen to be entering open waters while loaded with illicit refined products was engaged and destroyed at Gogokori.

According to Gabkwet, after receiving information on refining activities at the two locations, similar strikes were also launched against Idama in the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area and Omoma in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Additionally, he verified that on August 25, strikes were carried out in the northeast at Chinene, a terrorist stronghold in the Mandara Mountains that had previously been targeted on multiple times.

After witnessing the area being used for terrorist gatherings and operations on a regular basis, he continued, “the location was struck with several terrorists neutralised while others fled for their lives.”
