China demands that Gabon’s President Bongo’s safety be ensured.

China called on “all sides” in Gabon on Wednesday to ensure President Ali Bongo Ondimba’s safety, after a group of military officers announced they were “putting an end to the current regime” in the West African country.

“We call on all parties in Gabon to proceed from the basic interests of the country and the people, resolve differences through dialogue, (and) restore normal order as soon as possible,” said foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin, urging parties to “guarantee President Bongo’s personal safety, and uphold national peace and stability.”
