According to the Anambra State Police Command, a four-man gang that specialised in breaking into stores throughout the state has been apprehended.The police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.
He also mentioned that the Ogidi Division agents busted the group following a tip on Wednesday.Ikenga stated that two motorcycles, two large generators, one wheelbarrow, a deep freezer, three sacks of rice, and two massive iron cutters were found on the four suspects, all of whom were from Ebonyi State.He declared, “A four-man burglary gang that targets business establishments throughout the state has been busted by Ogidi, Anambra State police.
“In response to a tip they got on August 30, the police attacked the gang’s hideout and cordoned it off to stop any of the members from escaping.”The following items were recovered from them: two ladies’ motorcycles, two large generators, one wheelbarrow, one deep freezer, three bags of rice, and two large iron cutters. Four suspects, all of whom were from Ebonyi State, were arrested.
“The suspects admitted during questioning that they had broken into a store in Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area, Anambra State, in order to take the products that had been found.He continued by saying that the personnel had been asked not to give up on apprehending criminal elements by the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, who praised the new Divisional Police Officer in Ogidi, CSP Uche Onyinaya, for getting off to a quick start after recovering a Baretta pistol from a cultist.
The suspects will be charged in court as soon as the investigation is finished, he continued. “The CP has directed that investigation be extended to the Nanka community to locate the owner of the store and motor licencing office for records of owners of the motorcycles with a view to returning the recovered items to the rightful owners on bond.”
