Tony Elumelu: Tinubu does not intend to appoint me as CBN governor.

Elumelu stated that there is no truth to the rumours that Tinubu is considering him for the position of CBN governor.
Tony Elumelu, the Chairman of United Bank for Africa Plc, has denied speculations tying him to the position of governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
This followed reports that President Bola Tinubu had shortlisted Elumelu as one of the candidates for the apex bank’s highest office.
It all started when Imran Muhammad, a political blogger, announced on his X (previously Twitter) account that a source has confirmed that the President is considering Elumelu for the CBN job.
“According to a source, President Tinubu is also considering Tony O. Elumelu as CBN governor,” according to the tweet.
In response to Imran’s tweet, the successful banker said, “No, please.” This is bogus information.”
Elumelu paid Tinubu a visit at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.
Following the visit, the economist urged Nigerians to be patient with the Tinubu administration, claiming that the President has so far made sound judgements in the best interests of the country.
Previously, the Chairman of Heirs Holdings had hosted Tinubu at his own property in an upscale area of Lagos State shortly after the presidential election.
The two also met at the recently concluded Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Conference, which Tinubu proclaimed open and featured Elumelu as a guest speaker.
Elumelu is the CEO of one of Nigeria’s largest banks, with branches in Africa, Europe, the United States, and Asia.
