On September 11, Obaseki provides free transportation throughout Edo.

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has authorised free passenger travel on all Edo City travel Ltd lines in an effort to lessen the impact on the populace of the federal government’s suspension of fuel subsidies.Beginning on Monday, September 11, 2023, the free bus service will operate every day from 6.30 am to 7 pm.
The goal of the free transport service, according to a statement sent by the Chief Press Secretary to Edo State Governor Andrew Okungbowa, is to greatly lessen citizens’ mobility issues and enhance their welfare in light of the hardships brought on by the FG’s policy of eliminating subsidies.
The announcement said as follows: “Effective September 11, 2023, Edo City Transport Ltd (ECTS), a state-owned transportation corporation, will begin offering free bus rides to all passengers on all of its routes, as directed by His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, the Executive Governor of Edo State.
The initial two months of the free bus service are dedicated to transportation inside Benin City and between Benin-City and the major cities in the three senatorial districts.
“The Governor’s benevolent approval is intended to offer assistance to the people of Edo State in view of the various difficulties resulting from the elimination of the fuel subsidy.”
“While every effort is being made to acquire new gas-powered buses for the State, it is hoped that this transportation support of the caring Governor will significantly reduce the citizens’ mobility problems and improve their welfare within this period.”
