Hon. Wale Adedayo, the suspended chairman of Ogun State’s Ijebu East Local Government Area, who had been arrested by the Department of State Security Services since last Friday, is now free.

Speaking with our correspondent in Abeokuta soon after his release, Adedayo revealed that the DSS had called him in response to a petition alleging he was making provocative remarks that might have endangered public order.

However, the suspended LG chief claimed he had informed the DSS that he had never made any provocative remarks aside from his claim that local governments have received no funding from the state government for the last two years. He declared that he was unfazed by his struggles thus far and that he would vigorously contest what he claimed to be his illegitimate suspension from office on Thursday of last week.

Adedayo revealed that the letter was composed with the assistance of other state chairmen in order to report Governor Dapo Abiodun to Chief Olusegun Osoba, the former governor of the state. However, he expressed surprise that they were all able to withdraw from the fight, which is essentially to guarantee good governance at the local level.

Recall that the suspended chairman had petitioned the anti-graft authorities and written a letter to Osoba, a former state governor, over the alleged misappropriation of public monies by Dapo Abiodun, the state governor.

The state’s Joint Account and Allocation Committee, which oversees the management of federal contributions to local governments, has refuted the accusation, stating that all funds approved by the Committee flow through different Local Council Accounts.
