UNILAG Professor to be arraigned on alleged rape charges – Police PRO

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed to news outlets that Kadiri Akeem, an Associate Professor at the University of Lagos, will be charged in court for allegedly raping a 20-year-old student at the university.
Kadiri Akeem Babalola, an Associate Professor of Botany, was detained by agents of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly raping a female student at the college.
The 20-year-old student, whose identity has been suppressed, accused Babalola of the crime during a visit to the lecturer’s office to discuss difficulties with her grades.
The victim reported the event to the Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation, citing the alleged attack on August 16, 2023.
After the UNILAG Vice-Chancellor was given a seven-day deadline to produce the professor, the NGO reported the case to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command, prompting the Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, to issue a warrant of arrest for Babalola through the state High Court.
It was also said that when the Vice-Chancellor summoned Babalola for questioning, he acknowledged to the crime.
In a phone chat with Vanguard, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the occurrence, saying, “he has been arrested and is currently in our custody; he will be arraigned in court in the coming days, and we will keep the public informed.”
