NBS forecasts an increase in electricity customers to 11.47 million in Q2 2023.

Electricity consumption increased by 200,000 from 11.27 million in the first quarter of 2023 to 11,47 million in the second quarter.

The increase was 1.84 percent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in its Nigeria’s power report for the second quarter of 2023, which was released in Abuja on Friday.

During the time period under consideration, the study focused on energy invoiced, income generated, and consumers of electricity distribution firms.

According to the report, the number of power users climbed by 6.17 percent year on year in the second quarter of 2023, from 10.81 million in the same time in 2022.

It also stated that in the second quarter of 2023, the number of metered consumers increased by 3.10 percent from the first quarter of the year to 5.47 million.

“On a year-on-year basis, this figure increased by 10.40% from the 4.96 million figure reported in the second quarter of 2022,” according to the NBS.

Similarly, anticipated electricity subscribers in the second quarter of 2023 stood at six million, representing a 0.72 percent increase over the 5.96 million consumers recorded in the first quarter of the year.

Year on year, anticipated subscribers climbed by 2.58 percent in the second quarter of 2023, from 5.85 million in the same period in 2022.

The NBS also reported that power distribution businesses earned N263.08 billion in revenue in the second quarter of 2023, up from N247.33 billion in the first quarter.

It further stated that income received increased by 39.63% year on year over the N188.41 billion collected in the second quarter of 2022.

According to the report, power supply grew to 5,909 (Gwh) in the second quarter of 2023, up from 5,851 (Gwh) in the first quarter of the year.

According to the NBS, electricity supply increased by 13.06 percent year on year in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the 5,226 (Gwh) reported in the second quarter of 2022.
