African Union prime minister Narendra Modi made the announcement on Saturday that his country has formally entered the Group of 20 leading economies in the world.

During his opening remarks at the G20 Summit in New Delhi, India, he made the news.”I extend an invitation to the African Union representative to become a permanent member of the G20,” Modi declared, eliciting three applause rounds from the assembly.

Global divisions are widening at the same time as the AU’s inclusion. On the other hand, there was broad support for the AU’s inclusion in the G20, making it the second regional grouping, after the EU, to be granted permanent membership.

The most important and powerful economies in the world are together in an elite group called the G20.They make up two thirds of the world’s population, 85% of the global GDP, and 75% of international trade.
