Police in Katsina detain a person they believe killed the area commander



A 65-year-old accused paedophile and a 19-year-old alleged kidnapper were both arrested, according to Abubakar-Sadiq.

According to the Katsina State Police Command, a 30-year-old bandit who is thought to have been involved in the murder of ACP Aminu Umar, the Dutsin Ma Area Commander, has been apprehended.

The late ACP Umar was heading a patrol squad on their routine mission to clear the region of terrorists when they were attacked and killed by bandits in a ferocious gun battle on July 5.

He and another officer were killed as a result of the bandits overwhelming the police patrol squad and engaging them in a bloody gun battle.

The suspect, Sa’idu Yaro, also known as Sabon Jini, was taken into custody on August 30 according to the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Aliyu Abubakar-Sadiq, who talked to reporters in Katsina on Thursday.

The suspect is a native of Tsaskiya hamlet in Katsina State’s Safana Local Government Area.

“The suspect has been wanted by the command for a number of offences, including cattle rustling, kidnapping, and other horrific offences.

“When he was detained in connection with the abduction of one Hussaini Nabara from Kagara village in Dutsin Ma LGA, nemesis caught up with him.

He was found to be a member of the gang of one Abubakar Jankare, a prominent bandit leader in the region, throughout the course of the investigation, he claimed.

He claimed that the suspect had admitted to planning an ambush and murder of the late ACP Umar together with other prominent robbers.

In the meantime, on September 2, the command detained Ibrahim Abdullahi, alias Dogo, 35, of Sabon Garin Dumburawa, Batsari LGA, a gunrunner and informant for the bandits.

According to the spokeswoman, 404 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition were found on the suspect.

“The suspect was taken into custody while in possession of the evidence, and during the course of the inquiry, he confessed to the crime.

He stated, “The suspect revealed that he and his accomplice, who is currently at large, got the ammo from someone in Taraba’s Wukari LGA.

After the investigations were finished, he stated that all of the suspects will face charges in court.
