This judgement establishes Peter Mbah as the legitimate winner of the Enugu State governorship election.
The Supreme Court of Nigeria, in a judgement issued today, September 15, 2023, put an end to the legal dispute over the March 2023 governorship election in Enugu State.
The Supreme Court dismissed an appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate, Uche Nnaji, and his party, which challenged Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s victory.
In her decision, Justice Tijani Abubakar stated that the legal team representing the APC and Nnaji failed to produce a legitimate brief of argument and did not show convincing arguments to warrant accepting their defective brief.
This event, according to Justice Abubakar, casts doubt on the entire appeal procedure.
“In light of the invalid brief submitted by the appellants, it is only reasonable to conclude that the appeal itself lacks validity,” Justice Abubakar concluded unequivocally.
As a result, Justice Abubakar dismissed both the deficient brief and the appeal filed by Uche Nnaji and the APC.
