Obasanjo denies meeting President Tinubu on the occasion of Alake’s birthday.

Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has denied meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo’s, 80th birthday ceremony on Thursday.

A video clip was produced on the TikTok social media platform with the profile name “@asiwajuwoldwidef” to falsely claim that Tinubu and Obasanjo met on Thursday.

Obasanjo slammed the bogus tweet, which also lifted a banter exchange between the two when he hosted the former Lagos State governor last year before the country’s general elections this year, in a statement sent by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi.

Akinyemi added that the former President, who is currently in South Africa for the burial of his friend and brother, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, is advising the architect of the false disconnected and sicken post to go elsewhere for work rather than through him.

“One, I have not seen Bola Tinubu since he visited me in my house in Abeokuta during his campaign,” Obasanjo said. Second, I was at the church rather than the reception for Alake’s 80th birthday.”

To put the video’s content into context, during Tinubu’s visit to his house last year, he met the former President while he was playing his favourite traditional game (ayo), and he began the banter, jokingly telling the former President that he was surprised to see him playing the ‘ayo’ game at that time of day.

Obasanjo reacted spontaneously as he rose from his chair to greet him and other accompanying visitors: “when I don’t have a job.” If you are willing to offer me a job, I am willing to do it.”

Tinubu was heard praying for Obasanjo’s lifespan shortly after as they both moved into the sitting area with others.
