The subtly significant aspect of the narrative that we might have missed.
A second teaser for the upcoming Netflix film The Black Book has been released, and it pays tribute to Pat Nebo, a seasoned production designer.
The new teaser remembers the late Nebo, the director Editi Effiong posted in a post on September 17, 2023. On The Black Book, he served as the production designer. You might never see me again, Effiong wrote in his post. (In honour of our cherished friend Pat Nebo)”
We are guided through a much calmer side of the narrative by people like Richard Mofe Damijo, Sam Dede, Ade Laoye, and Denola Grey. As we wait for the film to be released, this allows us to witness Nebo’s contributions to the production and what appear to be his final comments to us all.
On September 14, 2023, Nebo’s passing was tragically announced to the Nigerian film industry. a talented production designer whose exquisite creations we have admired in our favourite Nigerian films. His earliest production design work was done in 1993 for Ti Oluwa Ni Ile, followed by his debut as an actor in Kunle Afolayan’s The Figurine.
Months before the start of the production, Effiong had already talked about how important Nebo’s agreement to work on the project was to him and his sacrifice.
Uncle Pat, in his own words, “read my script, went home, and built the sets we discussed so we could model shots and camera movement months in advance.” The greatest of the best, that is who he was.
Nebo occasionally on our screens as an actor, but his production ideas were his most frequent presents to us. They include The Black Book, which will soon be published, Half of a Yellow Sun, October 1, Omugwo, Lionheart, and Citation.
